MEET THE ROWBOTS TRAINERS

Tom Espin - September 09, 2020

WE’RE PROUD TO ANNOUNCE THAT WE’LL BE WORKING ALONGSIDE PIONEERING LONDON BASE GYM BRAND, ROWBOTS OVER THE COMING MONTHS ON THEIR LATEST INITIATIVE, ROWBOTS@HOME.

WE’VE SPOKEN TO SIX OF ROWBOTS TOP TRAINERS AHEAD OF THE COLLABORATION WHO’VE BROKEN DOWN HOW THEY’RE TRAINING, KEEPING MOTIVATED AND MAINTAINING A ROUTINE FROM THE COMFORT OF THEIR OWN HOME. PLUS A HOME WORKOUT TO KEEP YOU TICKING OVER DURING YOUR TIME IN LOCKDOWN.

HENDRICK - @SUPERMANHF

Head trainer at ROWBOTS, GB Champion Powerlifter and online & 1-1 personal trainer

CURRENT DAILY ROUTINE:

The day kicks off with 30-45 mins reading with the whole family then breakfast followed by taking on the role of “Mr, No Messing around” teaching the kids as they’re off school. After that, I get on and film workouts for social media then train with the Mrs, read for a while and finally chill out with a film and champagne!

HOW I’M STAYING MOTIVATED:

By remembering that this is just temporary and better days ALWAYS come. It may take a week, it may even take a year... but better days will come.

NICOLE - @NICKOLFLOODX

I was previously an autistic therapist, am currently Senior ROWBOTS trainer, 1-1 personal trainer and yoga instructor.

From a young age I’ve always wanted to help people, whether that be physically or mentally. Having a younger cousin who was born deaf, I was always around therapists, chiros and occupational therapists. That had a huge impact on me, seeing the positive effects on my cousin who’s living a happy and healthy life. Having studied autistic therapy for early years for 8-12 months I worked in and around schools in Hammersmith and Fulham for two years. After taking a trip to India to take on my passion of learning Vinyasa/Ashtanga yoga I came back eager to learn more within fitness and take on my PT certificate. This meant changing my career in order to help a new diversity of people, whether that be children or now adults.

CURRENT DAILY ROUTINE:

I’m now really trying to get into some sort of routine every day. Firstly, I wake up and get straight outside, whether that’s for steps or a light run. The sunshine and fresh air really helps my mind to feel at ease and ready for the day. Making sure I eat nutritious meals throughout the day and getting my work admin done first thing. This way I can then use the afternoon to do home workouts or one of my favourite things on a list I’ve made to help keep up doing things I enjoy most.

HOW I’M STAYING MOTIVATED:

Every morning during this period I am making the effort to wake up and walk first thing. Getting my steps in, fresh air and sunshine before I sit down to make a nutritious warming breakfast of oats (my favourite)! I’m lucky enough to have equipment at home so I can then do a workout later on in the day.  Also, making lists of both work related and fun related ideas and to achieve at least one a day, by doing this I can feel a sense of achievement at the end of the day and also bringing some fun and light into the situation. This could vary from baking your favourite cake or watching your favourite movie.

MATTEO - @WORKOUTWITHMATTEO

Senior trainer at ROWBOTS and qualified personal trainer leading over 20 weekly classes in rowing, running, boxing, Kettlebells and strength and conditioning.

CURRENT DAILY ROUTINE:

Typically get up around 7:00 - 7:30 depending on when I have my first client, then I hit my first workout of the day, have breakfast then do some admin in the morning. After lunch I either go for a run or do a second workout amongst clients, then in the evening read or watch TV whilst I have some dinner and Vino!

HOW I’M STAYING MOTIVATED:

I keep motivated training clients, clients have reached out from all over to train them online, so I’m running online classes and PTing them.

JOHNNY F- @GREEKIWI

I'm a New Zealand born, Greek retired Football Professional of 12 and a half years playing in the 1st and 2nd Divisions in countries from the Pacific region to Europe (New Zealand, Australia, Singapore-Malaysia and Greece). I was very actively involved in and developed with New Zealand's National Soccer teams at both a youth and senior level from U16-U23 playing in various FIFA tournaments with my biggest highlight being selected as part of the Sydney 2000 Olympics U23 squad.

I've taken all this experience and adapted it to my professional life in personal training, studio coaching and supporting all levels and ages spreading the movement of medicine. I perform a range of specialist fitness classes and have trained individuals, couples and small groups to the niche more exclusive international markets in Athens, UK, France, Spain, Italy, Australasia and well known professionals.

HOW I’M STAYING MOTIVATED:

I have many qualities covering a vast range of abilities and adapt easily to environments with a positive and optimistic outlook. I inspire and motivate myself through my knowledge, professionalism and character and I live, breathe and enjoy fitness whether training myself or others, coaching and helping clients achieve their health and lifestyle goals. It's what makes me smile! Currently I’m online trying to do all challenges, workouts, follow-ups, reading, research, replying, rest then repeat.

CURRENT DAILY ROUTINE:

My current routine, due to the transition of circumstances, is very varied. I'm pting online clients super early as I'm in Athens, then training and doing classes with another few pts-small groups. Then, a quick snack and coffee in between then I’m currently doing online education and updates on upskilling myself. I break with a light lunch so I can prep classes and have downtime and finish off with 1-3hrs training in the evening. Don't get me wrong, it's not every day that’s this full but I’m positive it will get this way and enjoy this new medium of chasing the challenge of change!

JAMIE - @JAMIESHAWLONDON

I have been a full time fitness, health and wellness professional for the last 12-13 years. I started my career back in November 2007 with LA Fitness and progressed all the way forward to now and being part of amazing companies such as Rowbots! My main focus is group exercise and classes, I love the atmosphere that they deliver.

HOW I’M STAYING MOTIVATED:

I'm keeping myself focused with simple things, keeping a morning routine. Enjoying the time to relax and find more out about myself. Using some free time to study and better myself educationally as well train to keep myself physically and mentally in shape.

CURRENT DAILY ROUTINE:

My current routine is pretty relaxed. I've decided to not put pressure on myself to meet certain criteria and demands in this challenging period. However, I've kept a loose schedule for myself.

First I wake up, reset myself mentally and put aside any mental difficulties I had from yesterday. Then note down two things I want to accomplish by the end of the day and think about putting them into action. Immediately following this I’ll do my bathroom ritual, making myself feel fresh and ready to tackle the day.

Next stop, nutrition! Gotta get in the calories, vitamins and minerals. As I'm not in my usual routine where work would dictate my times of eating, I've kept in mind to use certain windows to eat e.g. 12-2pm to have lunch. After this it will be a mixture of relaxing, putting together the plan I have to action the two things I want to accomplish and thinking about more food. Then I just let the day unfold adding in extras based on how I'm feeling.

SIMON - @COACH.BLOCH

I’m the Head of Community at ROWBOTS, former footballer, and holder of the title tallest footballer in the World! I’m Danish but came to London to chase my dream, about playing football in the UK. After playing for Accrington Stanley and Dulwich Hamlet, I also trained at West Ham for six months before deciding to become a personal trainer. So now I work full-time at ROWBOT, with a lot of good vibes!

HOW I’M STAYING MOTIVATED:

As my work is mostly training, if I stop training, I lose a lot of my hard work. It’s simple, I keep my head focused on my goals, keep moving forward, so I’m not going backwards.

CURRENT DAILY ROUTINE:

To start, I wake up, have breakfast and an oat coffee in bed with my misses. Then, look at the plan I’ve set for this time in lockdown, after that I train for 1.5-3.5 hours, depending on the level of intensity then shower, eat and chill.
